It's not easy being the son of a famous musical dad. Just ask Julian Lennon.
Liam Finn, son of Neil Finn (Crowded House/Split Enz), might write melodic songs and sound just like his father, but he has certainly carved out his own musical identity.
On his second solo record, Fomo (Fear of Missing Out), the talented Finn plays and sings everything himself. Cold Feet, the lead single from the album, is a hook-laden tune that I can't stop singing:
There's a space for me
On the edge of your seat
Where you wanted me to sit
Where you wanted me to sit
But my will is weak
And I'm tired of cold feet
Thought you wanted it to last
Thought you wanted it to last
As the blog Troubled Souls Unite claims, "the bass driven senior prom slow-dance song Cold Feet somehow avoids feeling cheesy."
Fomo is a good record; it's not a masterpiece. There are times when Finn sounds like Crowded House, while other times he sounds a bit like Elliott Smith. If he continues writing songs in the vein of Cold Feet, then I'm looking forward to his next album.
